The City of Acworth was selected as a 2010 All America City. The National Civic League’s All America City Award Competition was held June 16 through June 18 in Kansas City, Missouri where twenty five cities from across the nation competed for the coveted designation. The distinction of being chosen as an All America City is a prestigious honor for those communities that have demonstrated success in overcoming community challenges. The Acworth Community highlighted three programs where the government, business, non-profit, and faith based organizations came together to achieve a common goal. The three programs are the Expanding Horizons, Acworth Achievers, and the Horizon Field.

Acworth - The Lake City
Acworth is a beautiful vibrant city with a small town atmosphere know as The Lake City.
It will take you back to the time when people strolled along the street and actually said hello to one another. The square is host to an abundance of Virginia Highland worthy restaurants, shops and antiques. Located north of Kennesaw and south of Cartersville this sleepy small city is surrounded by numerous attractions. A few blocks off of the square is Cauble Park at Lake Acworth Beach Another 10 minutes away is Lake Allatoona. |

Cupola Caboose
Acworth's historic downtown has several landmarks that serve as reminders of days gone by. This Cupola Caboose is located on a trading route once used by the Cherokee Indians. The rail line from Kennesaw to Acworth is rich with Civil War history. It's location resulted in Sherman's troops burning the town in
1864. Acworth was well on their way to rebuilding by 1879. Acworth prospered with two flour mills, a cotton gin and a tannery. Most of the buildings that stand today are dated from the late 1800s. By the 1920s Acworth's location became a benefit being located on the North-South thoroughfare of the Dixie Highway (Hwy. 41). Now Interstate 75 provides easy access to the historic district of Acworth. |
The Lemon House
Located one block from Acworth's historic district the Lemon House represents the grandeur of days gone by. More than being a magnificent home it was a site of the Civil War history. To learn more about Captain James Lile Lemon CLICK HERE it is a fascinating read.
